Dope – No Regrets Out Now

March 10, 2009

The new album from Dope entitled No Regrets is released today. It is their fifth album and third designed with F3 Studios. Stephen has been working with lead singer Edsel Dope and the guys since 2002 and have developed a great working relationship together. This album went under several different names, several different visual concepts and several different cover designs in the year and a half that they’ve been working on it.

In the last few months of working on the album Edsel had been going up and down emotionally and reflecting on his life the people in his life and choices over the years. The final concept that Edsel decided on was that of a sick, blackened heart that has been beaten up from all of his experiences but as he looks back he has not one single regret. We went through several heart illustrations before going with the simple one that you see here.

Stephen notes: “Edsel is all about the album cover being simple and iconic. He wanted something that would be simple to remember and that translates well to his live show and swag. On the last two albums we did a red cross and tattered American flag and we both felt that this cover fit very well with those two covers in simplicity and tone.”

Just as the packaging had been completed both Edsel and Stephen felt that there was some imagery that was just missing. Stephen decided to travel with the band to New York City to do some new photography on the set of the videos for the tracks “Addiction” and Stephen’s personal favorite “6-6-Sick”. The new photography was perfect to help round out the packaging artwork as well as new merchandise and the new website that Stephen designed for the album.

Steven, it would be cool if you posted some of the concept art/sketches that didn’t get on the final print.

Hey Sky. That would indeed be cool but it may have to wait for F3 Studios – Declassified!
